As per the Education Regulations framed by Pharmacy Council of India, D.Pharm is the minimum qualification to register as a Pharmacist in the State Pharmacy Council.
As per section 42 of the Pharmacy Act 1948, no person other than a Registered Pharmacist shall compound, prepare, mix or dispense any medicine under the prescription of a Medical Practitioner.
Hence there is a great demand for Registered Pharmacists in the areas of Hospital Pharmacy, Retail Pharmacy, Community Pharmacy, and allied sectors under the control of government and private sector, and such other areas where the provisions of Section 42 of the Pharmacy Act is applicable. Hence there is a world of opportunities for the persons holding Diploma in Pharmacy for effective Pharmaceutical care.
Further the Diploma holders who are interested for pursuing higher studies can pursue three year B.Pharm degree through the lateral entry provisions.
Further, a registered Pharmacist with D.Pharm qualification, with four years of Pharmacy practice experience can upgrade the qualification by pursuing B.Pharm ( Practice)
